Contra-indications to massage

Contra-indications are medical reasons why a therapist may adapt or refuse to carry out a treatment. This is to ensure no harm is caused to the client or therapist.

Please take a moment to check the contra-indications below. If you suffer with a health condition or have any circumstances you would like to discuss, please state this during your booking process. Please note, some health conditions require consent from a health practitioner before a treatment can go ahead. Please get in contact if you are unsure if this applies to you.

Total contra-indications (health conditions that mean I am unable to provide treatment):

Stroke within the last six months; meningitis, active epilepsy in the last 18 months; heart attack within the last six months (after this time a medical consent is required); haemophilia (for mild forms, please seek medical consent); severe anaemia; cancer (undergoing treatment); hepatitis (in acute stages); cirrhosis of the liver, acute UTI; acute chronic renal failure; acute gout; kidney stone attack; scabies; head lice; ringworm; impetigo; open wounds; fever; undiagnosed swelling; undiagnosed severe headaches; tuberculosis (until medication has been used for one month); deep vein thrombosis (within six months of diagnosis); shingles.

Relative contra-indications (health conditions that will require caution/adaptations and medical consent before treatment):

Cancer (not currently undergoing treatment); parkinson’s disease (with supervision); multiple sclerosis; neuralgia; diabetes (if unstable); emphysema; heart failure; uncontrolled angina; uncontrolled high or low blood pressure; deep vein thrombosis (permission needed after six months following diagnosis); leukaemia; HIV.

All pregnancy massages will need permission from your midwife / health practitioner. Any previous or current pregnancy complications need to be noted and discussed before your treatment.

Local contra-indications (health conditions that will require area avoidance or adaptations during treatment):

Facture; sprain; acute osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis; acute ankylosing spondylitis; open wounds or broken skin; bacterial, viral or fungal skin infections (inflamed acne, boils, warts, verrucas, herpes, athlete’s foot); varicose veins; phlebitis; abdominal hernia; limbs or joints affected with gout; fibroids; endometriosis; colitis; cysts.

Additional information

Location: Home-based treatment room located in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. Driveway parking available.

Mobile treatments: Mobile treatments are available (minimum two persons except where the reason is accessibility). Please ensure you have a room available with clear space of no less than 2.0m x 3.2m (7ft x 10ft) and refer to the Home page for travel costs.

Events: Contact for details. Ideal for hen parties, retreats and other group occasions.

Working hours: Morning, afternoon and evening slots available Tuesday - Sunday. Specific appointment times/days will be provided during the booking process. Please allow up to 1-2 days for responses.

Certifications: ITEC Level 3 Diploma Sports Massage, Spa Body Massage Diploma, Pregnancy Massage Diploma, Hot Stone Massage Diploma.

I am a full member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and complete the Continuing Professional Development annual requirements to retain the capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally within my scope of practice.

Accessibility: Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access (mobile treatments are available to accommodate this). Massage table weight limit: 125kg.

Notes for your treatment: Boxers / knickers are to be worn at all times during treatment. Please do not arrive to your treatment any earlier than five minutes as there is no waiting area.

Payment: Bank transfer or cash are accepted. Please note that when paying cash, change is not always available. If you can, please bring the correct amount for your treatment.

Cancellations and amendments

Please give as much notice as you can if your treatment needs to be cancelled or amended. There is a 24-hour notice period for any appointments cancelled or moved to another date. After this point, you will be charged for half of your treatment cost , which should be paid via bank transfer on the day of cancellation or postponement. For any moved appointments, the remaining balance can be paid on your new appointment date. If you would like to amend the type, length or add an upgrade to your treatment, please give as much notice as you can to ensure the changes can be accommodated.
